Is there anything more festive than glitter? Nope? Exactly.

But, the reality is that while glitter only lasts a while on our skin, *most* conventional glitters never break down after we flush them down our sinks.

Yes, I know you already know about microbeads but were you aware that some glitter is made out of tiny reflective pieces of plastic? I sure wasn’t. This means that aquatic creatures are ingesting and choking on plastic from our quest for a bit of seemingly harmless shimmer.

Considering 8 million tonnes of “stuff” ends up in our seas every single day, it’s crazy to think that around 92% of that plastic is down to our microplastic usage. So, I say, sparkle while knowing you’re not contributing to our ocean wastage by getting eco-friendly glitter.

Avoid glitter like the plague if it has polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) in it because those are all microplastics.

Now, onto the fun stuff…

This sparkly eyeshadow look was mega easy and just required a balm (I used Bybi’s Babe Balm) and some biodegradable glitter. I simply slicked some balm onto my lids, before dipping my finger into the glitter and smacking it on top (gently, of course.) It held so well and now I’m trying to justify how I can wear glitter every frickin’ day.

The girls at Clean Beauty Co. were also kind enough to give me some extra advice in my quest to glisten: they suggested mixing shimmery mica powder with biodegradable glitter to add texture – and they also said if balms ever feel too sticky, adding a little bit of aloe vera will thin it down.

So what are you waiting for? Go forth and glitter – and don’t let anyone ever dull your sparkle. ✨
